Beekeepers Educational Seminars


            BEEKEEPERS EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS

   April 8th and April 10th  at  6:00 p.m.  

          National Guard Armory, 2761 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk, VA 23434

Pre-registration is required and limited to the first 75 callers.  Please mark your calendars and call Rexford E. Cotten at 514-4330 or 514-4331 today or by April 4th, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. to register.

Due to the decline in honeybee populations across the state of Virginia and S.E. United States and their importance in food production, Virginia Cooperative Extension Suffolk Unit have planned two educational seminars for potential and experienced beekeepers.

These seminars will cover and provide limited resources (Queens & Hives as long as the supply last) made available by the General Assembly to those interested in getting into beekeeping.

Agenda are as follows:

              April 8th (Tuesday)

         Introduction to and getting started in Beekeeping

         Hive set up and installation of Packaged Bees

         Locations of Hives relative to Sources of Food

 

            April 10th (Thursday)

         Pest Management in the Bee Hive - Disease & Mites

         Supering Colonies for Honey Flow

         Basic Colony and Queen Examination and Evaluation

 

Presentations will be covered by:

            Mr. Keith Tignor,  VDACS State Apiarist, Richmond, VA

            Ms. Brenda Johnson, VDACS Field Representative, Williamsburg, VA

            Mr. Charles Hood, VDACS Field Representative, Franklin, VA

            Mr. Dan Hopkins, NDACS State Apiarist, Raleigh, NC

            Mr. Adolphus Leonard, NDACS Field Representative, Greensville, NC

 

The National Guard Armory is located at 2761 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk, VA 23434.  Click here for directions.  Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. with 1-1/2 hour Educational Meeting following each night.  These meetings are FREE of charge, however, small donation of $7.00 or so will be accepted to help cover some of the expense.  Pre-registration is required and limited to the first 75 callers.  Please mark your calendars and call Rexford E.
